Roundtable Projects 2009 - 2010
Mission to South Africa:
February 2010
Wouter Pronk and Reinier de Man visited South Africa from Februari 10 to February 20. They facilitated an agreement on joint action by Anglo Platinum and the Benchmarks Foundation on improving the inclusion of local communities in planning future mining activities. The programme included the following items.
- Visit a community in Limpopo (with the Benchmarks Foundation)
- Discuss opportunities for community involvement with the Benchmarks Foundation
- Visit a mining operation with Anglo Platinum
- Discuss community involvement with Anglo Platinum.
- Discuss and agree on concrete action ideas with Anglo Platinum and the Benchmarks Foundation.
The results have been presented by The Benchmarks Foundation and Anglo Platinum at the Third Roundtable (April 2010).
With financial support from the Dutch Environment Ministry, project work was started in 2009 and has been concluded in April 2010. Milieukontakt and Reinier de Man have been working closely together with Autorecycling Nederland, Greenpeace Russia and the South African Bench Marks Foundation.
The project's main elements were:

Improving the inclusion of local communities in planning Anglo Platinum's mining activities, in close cooperation with the Bench Marks Foundation and Anglo Platinum.

Assessing the feasibility study for PGM recycling from exported cars (focussed on Russia), in close cooperation with Greenpeace Russia and Autorecycling Nederland.
The results of these projects were presented at the Third International Roundtable, on April 8, 2010.
